In depth

Verdict

An awful race to open the card and in the desperate conditions we must look to those with a penchant for heavy ground, so Saucy Bingo, Monashee Grey, Tinto Verano and Oscar Trial come into the equation and Saucy Bingo gets the very tentative nod. Tom George has his string in fine form, and though Saucy Bingo has been thrashed a few times, this step back up in trip can prove to be a plus. He is by Supreme Leader, so he should relish conditions, and he makes his handicap debut from a reasonable mark of 90, so we'll take a chance on him. Monashee Grey enjoys cut in the ground and is sent on the long trip north-east by Peter Bowen. He ran well enough in defeat here last time over slightly shorter, and if his stamina holds out then he can be thereabouts. Oscar Trial was best of the rest behind a good winner at Hexham last time and he looks to have plenty of stamina and a liking for juice in the ground, so he should get involved. Another whose pedigree suggests he will relish conditions is Tinto Verano, and he wouldn't need much ability to go close in a race of this nature, but Saucy Bingo is a suggestion if you really must place a bet.
