Verdict

Only one favourite has won in nine renewals and there have been some big-price winners. CONSORT is likely to start at short odds here and it's not difficult to see why. A maiden winner at Newmarket in September, he returned with a Listed victory at Sandown before a superb run in the St James's Palace Stakes behind Gleneagles. He should do even better over this longer trip and has to be the selection. Intilaaq finished a long way behind Gleneagles in the 2000 Guineas though that didn't look his form and he can do better. Fire Fighting has been running well in tough handicap company and wasn't beaten far in a Listed handicap at Ascot while Tullius is another of the older horses with a chance though he's penalised for landing the Doncaster Mile in March.
