In depth

Verdict

Sharpener, who ran a respectable race when third to Fantasia on her debut at Newmarket last week, looks the pick of Richard Hannon's three runners ahead of Ballyalla and Brooksby but it is Solitary that gets the vote. Henry Candy's filly ran a race full of promise on her debut here last month and, with further improvement to come, she looks worth chancing to open her account. Brian Meehan has his string in good form right now so his runner Super Midge has to be respected but a bigger threat may come from one of the many newcomers in the field. John Gosden's Green Desert filly Miss Tango Hotel would probably want the ground to be faster than it is and of more interest may be Ed Dunlop's Demeanour. She is bred to be useful being a daughter of Giant's Causeway and it is interesting that Seb Sanders has been booked for the ride on the Highclere Thoroughbred-owned filly. Intrepid Lady, a daughter of Namid, looks the pick of Mick Channon's three runners and she has to be considered, particularly if the market speaks in her favour. Solitary has solid claims on form already shown though and she is preferred.
