In depth

Verdict

A fascinating contest with some potentially smart individuals amongst the well-bred newcomers from top yards. The betting market will provide many clues but of the John Dunlop-trained pair Island Saint, a son of Efisio and related to winners abroad, looks the stable first string on jockey bookings while Ed Dunlop saddles Marfooq, a Diesis colt from the family of 1,000 Guineas heroine Fairy Footsteps. Paul Cole has a good record in this contest and debutant Crafty Calling, a full brother to a Grade 2 winner in the States, has to enter calculations. Richard Hannon's juveniles are in top form and Cap Ferrat, a 130,000 gns purchase, is another to consider while Barry Hills runs three with Surbiton, an expensive son of El Prado, the possible pick of the trio.
