In depth

Verdict

Charterhouse, a Curragh maiden winner, has an official rating of 105 which is based on his five-length defeat in the National Stakes which has worked out brilliantly. He came nowhere near to running to that mark on his reappearance at Leopardstown and BELMONT AVENUE may improve past him. Joseph O'Brien's charge reappeared after a long break with a convincing maiden success at Dundalk and looks to have plenty more to offer. Ides Of August made a successful debut at Leopardstown last June but hasn't made the expected progress nor has Laelaps from October's course and distance victory. Rebel Step had little chance in the Irish 2,000 Guineas but his previous form puts him right in the picture.
