In depth

Verdict

Sir Boreas Hawk can defy a penalty at the expense of Guns And Butter, Mr Guppy and Piscataqua. Sir Boreas Hawk did no more than needed when opening his account at Hexham in April, and was entitled to need the run when catching a tartar in the shape of Tazbar at Catterick in November. The latter looks a bit special, and indeed could be aimed at the Aintree Bumper, so with nothing of that calibre in opposition here, Alan Swinbank's charge can prove hard to beat. Guns And Butter was placed in an Irish point in March and showed some promise when third on his bumper debut here in December, so he can give the selection a race at least. Mr Guppy finished clear of the third horse when chasing home Unowatimeen at Sedgefield last month and will be out to get the losses back, while Piscataqua is held by the selection on form. Sir Boreas Hawk may be no world beater, but he should be good enough here.
