In depth

Verdict

Gone Too Far has obvious claims and is the one to beat, with Kristiansand, Mighty Fine and Stellar Brilliant the ones to give him most to do. This looks a poor contest, and on past form Gone Too Far has major claims. Peter Monteith's nine-year-old has not won since scoring over fences at Perth in September 2005, but has taken on better company than this on many occasions, and although on the downgrade these days, he must surely prove too strong for this lot. Stablemate Kristiansand has not progressed at all since winning a maiden hurdle at Cartmel in August, and it is no surprise to see him tried at this lowly level, while Mighty Fine is the old man of the party at the age of 13, and does not have much to offer. Stellar Brilliant was beaten when falling at Catterick last time, but the Bath Flat winner has a bit more scope than most so should be noted in the market, along with Al Moulatham, whose stable is ticking over nicely at present. All things considered though, Gone Too Far will not find a better opportunity of getting back to winning ways.
