In depth

Verdict

Fandani and Amour Multiple both have to be respected on their best form but may struggle under their penalties to give weight away to Lunar Sovereign who gets the vote. The selection was a useful middle distance performer on the level when with Godolphin and probably needed his first outing for some time when making his debut over hurdles for Martin Pipe at Plumpton in November. Pipe's horses have been going well after a break of late so the chances are that the lack of a run since then should not be of concern. The ex-French Megaton has given little real sign of encouragement in two starts over timber for Peter Bowen but cannot be ruled out, while Paul Webber's Polonius could be of interest on his hurdling debut. The Phillip Hobbs-trained Sakenos looks to be going the right way now and is another worthy of a mention although a bigger threat is likely to come from Fandani. Charlie Mann's Wincanton winner has gone well under a penalty in three starts since then and should again be thereabouts but, along with Amour Multiple, may struggle to concede weight to Lunar Sovereign who gets the vote.
