In depth

Verdict

LISAHANE BOG may well still be one step ahead of the handicapper and is preferred to Prince Of Sorrento and the game Transfixed. Peter Hedger's gelding gives his backers some anxious moments as he rarely seems to race on the bridle and needs to be rousted along from some way out but cheekpieces have been the making of him. There's no doubting his desire to win, he's on an upward curve and a 3lb rise for his latest success is unlikely to anchor him. The small field and the possibility of a falsely run race could count against him though and Transfixed is one of those that could profit if allowed an easy time of things in front. She's proved to be a remarkably durable campaigner and only narrowly lost out to Prince Of Sorrento over course and distance last time. The winner will be fancied to confirm the form on just 1lb worse terms for half a length and the way that he raced suggested that there was more to come as he still looked rather green when push came to shove. Exceedthewildman wasn't far back in third and now has the assistance of a 7lb claimer but he was possibly flattered by the way that the race was run and he may need some respite from the assessor. Epic has a little to prove but he hasn't had too many chances in his career and has had just the one start since being gelded. Connections held hopes that he would show improved form as a three year old but he's hard to recommend on the evidence of his last start and there's no reason to abandon the progressive Lisahane Bog.
