In depth

Verdict

In the maiden, we will take a chance on Catalini ahead of Count Dracula and Wavertree Girl. Running through the field, Appolonius is out of a mare that won over six furlongs but the stable's runners generally need their first runs. Artisticimpression should be better at this type of trip and hails from a good yard, so watch the betting for clues. The same stable runs the well-bred Moments I Treasure, although she might need a bit more time. The beautifully-bred Catalini improved with every run last season and a mile ought to be within her compass. She too looks very interesting here, while Count Dracula comes here from the in-form Andrew Balding stable and has displayed form on this surface. Doctored has bits of form but his two runs here so far have been modest, while the well-bred Farnborough is out of a winning mare and has plenty to like on breeding. Once again, though, the stable's runners often need their first run. Be guided by the market. The market might also prove a guide to the chances of Gay Kelleway's French import Princess Bankes, and Wavertree Girl showed her best form to date when finishing third over seven furlongs here last time. She should run well again but, with her fairly stout breeding, might be vulnerable to one with a bit more pace. We'll take a chance that that one might be Catalini.
