In depth

Verdict

A wide-open nursery can go to the topweight Extra Mark over the likes of Makepeace, Hidden Chance, Ivana Illyich and Mitraillette. This really is a tough one to sort out, with so many contenders further down the handicap having shown enough to follow in nurseries, but Extra Mark has impressed more than most and gets the vote. John Best's charge found only the highly-rated Midnight Tycoon too good on his Hamilton debut, while the form of his next outing at Southwell has worked out well, with the fourth, Coleorton Dancer going on to land a decent Newmarket nursery. He has been given a break since posting yet another noteworthy effort at Sandown in June, and lines up fresh and raring to go over a trip that should bring his stamina into play. Dangers abound such as Mitraillette who looks just the sort to improve in this sphere, while further down the weights, Makepeace comes from a stable back in form. Hidden Chance took part in a hotter affair than this at Newmarket and had earlier opened her account at Folkestone. Ivana Illyich boasts experience but might find conditions too lively, and so we shall stick with Extra Mark to deliver.
