Verdict

ARCHERS ROAD sets the standard and is taken to hit the target but there are some interesting newcomers in opposition. Michael Bell won this race last year with the top class Art Connoiseur so it will be fascinating to see if there's any confidence behind the chances of Farmer Giles whose sire was a juvenile Grade winner in New Zealand and has his first crop of Northern Hemisphere juveniles this season. Kevin Ryan provided the winner two years ago in Kersaint and he proved to be a fair sort despite failing to add to that success. His sire, Pastoral Pursuits, was a top class juvenile and it will be fascinating to see if his first crop of two year-olds have inherited his precocity and pace. Jack My Boy and Ever So Bold are two more to pay cursory attention to but there was plenty to like about the debut of Archers Road in the Brocklesby and the way that the first few finished suggests that the race may have been an above average renewal. Some above average horses have won this maiden in recent years, perhaps Archers Road will be another.
