In depth

Verdict

This seven-furlong handicap is very similar to our opening race and the fact that CLEVER OMNEYA has scope to improve might just give her the edge over Reigning Monarch with Battimore also considered with her pilot in such good form. With just five races under the belt and only two in handicaps the pick looked an improved sort when narrowly missing out of this mark last time. She showed plenty of willing before just being run out of the lead in the closing stages and if she can build on that she should be winning here. Reigning Monarch is one of the more consistent in this field and managed to land some more minor honours in a slightly better race last time. He's dropped a couple of pounds for that run and with a more experienced Jockey in the plate this time he should go close. There are few riding better than Adam Kirby this winter and he does the steering on Battimore who should be competitive under her current weight. Hi Spec would have to go down as one of the more interesting runners off his current rating too but with scope to improve Clever Onneya looks just the call.
