In depth

Verdict

Countess Ellen should appreciate the return to this trip after being tapped for a bit of speed last time but preference is for SILVER OCEAN. The Ralph Beckett-trained pick had an unfavourable draw and was slowly away here on debut, but once switched inside to challenge he picked up well and he looks a surefire improver, so we will give him the nod. Three Sparrows was a bit flat on debut and needs to improve plenty for it to win here, so with the Hannon runners slightly off the boil compared to earlier in the season we will oppose. State Of Mind looks like a probable improver after a pleasing introduction at Newmarket and would be no surprise winner, while the same applies to Hokoumah now switched back to this surface after a couple of decent runs in defeat so far. Even so, Silver Ocean perhaps caught the eye most on his first run and is selected tonight.
