In depth

Verdict

A decent contest by the card's standards and while Herrera, Amazing Tiger and Ottoman Empire can all have a big say preference is for topweight SLEEPY HOLLOW. Hughie Morrison's four-year-old met with plenty of traffic and travel issues when runner-up at Epsom last time and has got winning form over this trip. He has crept up the weights due to a string of good performances in defeat and he looks rock solid. Hopefully, Steve Drowne can make best use of his stamina against a couple of doubtful stayers and notch up his first win of the season now tried on this surface for the first time. Herrera has handled a variety of conditions on turf and stays two miles, but won over this same trip on soft ground at Hamilton last time. She has gone up just 3lbs for that and looks a contender with bottom weight to carry. Ottoman Empire took a Southwell maiden last time in comfortable fashion. He looked as though he would get this far when doing so, although pedigree suggests otherwise and on his handicap debut he may be best watched. Mark Johnston saddles Amazing Tiger, who steps up from scoring over a mile at Musselburgh in June. It is hard to assess how well handicapped he is, but this trip may stretch him a little if there is a genuine pace to the contest. Can Can Star went close from a 2lbs lower mark last time but tends to save his best for Lingfield, and we prefer Sleepy Hollow.
