Verdict

BENNELONG, Implication and Statute Book form our three strong short-list but, in truth, a good number more merit close consideration if not inclusion. Ralph Beckett has his string in fair form and Bennelong looks sure to have a say in the outcome. He returned a beaten favourite on his seasonal reappearance in a maiden won by the promising Bridge Of Gold but bounced back with a decent run behind the promising Spring Adventure. The handicapper has dropped his mark by 4lbs following that performance which has given him a live chance at a track that should see him in a better light than Lingfield. The track wasn't to blame for Statute Book's eclipse at Southwell but he had been on the go for a while and may have been feeling the effects. He has been given a break and may be able to resume the progression that he had shown prior to that outing. Implication was quite well backed ahead of her handicap bow and went close to landing the spoils despite not enjoying the run of the race. She was forced to race wide and still appeared a little green in the finish so she should be able to find the improvement required to counter a 5lb rise in the weights. There are a handful more that we wouldn't put anyone off but Bennelong wins our vote.
