In depth

Verdict

Forest Tune, a mile winner on the flat for trainer Ben Hanbury is an interesting recruit to the winter game and should make a bold bid on his hurdling debut. The four-year-old certainly makes more appeal than other newcomers from the level, Challenor and Lowry. The Ian Williams-trained Sharmy has already shown a fair standard of form over timber and deserves to win a race of this nature after several placed efforts including at Ascot recently. However, the six-year-old has proven expensive to follow and may again have to settle for minor honours. Sprinter Threezedzz has shown signs of ability but remains a doubtful stayer, while all-weather winner African Dawn needs to improve on his sixth at Cheltenham to take a hand. The TEAMtalk selection then goes to the Mark Tompkins-trained Niagara. The son of Rainbows For Life has arguably the best form of these to have raced over timber having chased home Martin Pipe's Puntal at Southwell when last seen over hurdles in May. The six-year-old comes here fit from the flat, efforts that have included a recent success at Folkestone, and he looks the one to beat.
