In depth

Verdict

Now Then Sid is taken to defy topweight, with Bo Dancer, Whispering Holly and College City just three more in with chances in another wide-open event. This is yet another nightmare handicap in which a pin would come in handy, and it is more in hope than optimism that Now Then Sid is selected to supplement his Sedgefield gains. True, the five-year-old won easily enough from Whispering Holly, and should uphold that form at least. Even so, there was nothing special about his performance, and he is no good thing to follow up. He is though best of a poor bunch and, and with nothing else standing out, is lumbered with the selection. Bo Dancer was beaten in selling company at Cartmel but should come on for the run, as should College City who had been off the track for nearly a year before a creditable third at Cartmel. He might just find the ground a bit lively though. Allegedly Red has bits and pieces of form, while Howaboys Quest is surely better than his poor effort at Perth in soft ground last time. Not a race to lose sleep over by any stretch of the imagination, but Now Then Sid gets a small vote.
