Verdict

AUTUMN WAR had no problem with the step-up to 2m in the Northumberland Vase, in which his jockey reported he was too free early on. The fact that he came home well in fifth reflects the value of the performance and he can concede weight to all rivals dropping back a quarter of a mile. Steel An Icon's form figures speak for themselves and he's proved a credit to the Channon yard this season and it would be folly to exclude him from calculations off what still appeals as a decent mark of 74. Noonday Gun and General Zoff came home fourth and fifth in what looked a useful staying contest at Sandown and both can be given a respectable chance.
