In depth

Verdict

Attache came back to his best when dropping back in trip to take a similar event over CD a fortnight ago, but all his wins have been on good ground or faster. By contrast Regal Song needs it very soft and won at Hamilton in the mud last month, but has been well beaten three times since and is best over the minimum trip. Lord Merlin could spring a surprise. He won on his debut last term and was third in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and in a big event in Ireland for Dandy Nicholls, but has his fair share of temperament. Switched to W Musson at Newmarket but cut no ice in his first two races this term and now with James Given in tranquil Lincolnshire. Follow Flanders was held up by coughing last year and did not make her debut until winning on sand at Lingfield in November. She comes from a very fast family and made a successful reappearance at Thirsk, but was in season when only fifth at Newmarket next time. Beaten just two lengths though and missed the break when favourite and fourth at Nottingham latest. Forever Times won a decent race at Redcar on firm ground in June, but acts on an easy surface and the form of her last two appearances when runner-up at Newbury and Ascot entitle her to have an outstanding chance here. Grey Cossack won in soft ground over 7F at Newcastle in April and that form is working out really well. The grey went on to score on firm ground at Pontefract over this trip and showed signs of coming back to his best when beaten just a short head at Newcastle latest.
