Verdict

A competitive contest featuring three last time out winners Zweibrucken, Aperitif and Little Bob but it might be worth taking a chance with Miss Monica. The selection has had just the three runs necessary for a handicap mark and remains unexposed. Henry Cecil's filly should improve for the softer surface today and, in receipt of weight from all of her rivals, the daughter of Grand Lodge looks worth a bet. Zweibrucken bounced back to form when successful at Salisbury over seven furlongs last time but has been raised 4lbs for that and may struggle over today's longer trip. The William Haggas-trained Aperitif finally came good when landing a maiden over course and distance last month but this looks tougher and a bigger threat may come from Little Bob. James Bethell's gelding put a disappointing effort behind him when winning a maiden at Newcastle last month and there may be more to come form the son of Zilzal. African Sahara faces no easy task giving weight away to his rivals, while the consistent Stoic Leader seems a shade high in the weights at present. A market move for Hills of Gold would be of interest, while Baffle may do better back on a softer surface but the vote goes to Miss Monica, who is taken to open her account.
