An interesting juvenile contest that may see Cop Hill Lad bounce back against some equally talented youngsters such as Fokine, Venables and Cedarberg. Rod Millman's colt had a job on giving weight away all round in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury and considering that he did not get the run of the race, did well once seeing daylight to chase home Richard Hannon's If Paradise. Hannon relies on Venables, who cost $190,000. A promising sixth on his debut, the son of champion sprinter Stravinsky then beat a hot favourite at Kempton before following up at Newbury and is highly rated by connections. Fokine has an entry in the Gimcrack at York but Barry Hills is keen to run this easy Newmarket maiden winner here, while Mick Channon relies on Cedarberg, from a strong team of two-year-olds. Carrizo Creek captured the Goffs Challenge at The Curragh and makes more appeal that Aidan O'Brien's Old Deuteronomy, with the stable not yet firing on all cylinders. Mark Johnston's inmates are not to be discounted and as the stable collected two years ago with Mister Cosmi, Great Scott has a squeak. However, the toughness of Cop Hill Lad gives him the edge.
