In depth

Verdict

This race is named after the David Nicholls trained sprinter who was pulled out overnight, but the stable are still three handed, and they would love to land this contest, Merlin's Dancer could be the one to oblige, with Devise and Roses Of Spring put forward as the main rivals. The selection ran a blinder on Sunday in the Hong Kong Sprint at Ascot, going down by just over two lengths in what was possibly more competitive than today's contest. If this event hasn't come too soon he must have a tremendous chance. Roses Of Spring hasn't won for a year but is ominously dropping down the weights and put up her best display of the season when only beaten two lengths in a competitive race at Newmarket last time. Devise has been in good form all season and his recent effort at Newmarket when a close fourth to Silver Prelude, makes very good reading indeed. Many others can be given some sort of chance in a very tricky contest, but we will take a chance on Merlin's Dancer.
