Verdict

A hot race which should involve Black Charmer, Aussie Rules, Asset, Final Verse and Sir Percy, and we take the latter to sneak it. Marcus Tregoning nominated this race as the plan on the way to the Dewhurst in the autumn, and he will be ideally suited by the step up to seven furlongs. He possesses plenty of pace, has the scope to make plenty of improvement, and handles both good ground and, significantly, this tricky track. He will do for us as a value alternative to his biggest threat, Aussie Rules. Aidan O'Brien's colt got the hang of the game very quickly when a winner over six furlongs at The Curragh on his only start. Being by Danehill, this step up to seven will be in his favour and he looks certain to go close. Black Charmer has plenty of experience under his belt and the form of his last two defeats still gives him a major chance here, if he stays the trip. The ground won't help his cause though and he is just overlooked. Asset was very impressive at Yarmouth last time and could be anything, while Final Verse will improve for his Doncaster debut success and should get into the shake-up. But there's plenty to like about Sir Percy, who get's the vote.
