In depth

Verdict

A poor race which won't take much winning, and Social Contarct gets a very tentative vote ahead of Hill Magic and Compton Drake. The key to this race may be the pace, and there is a good chance that Social Contract, who has a good draw in stall 19, could just have the lead to himself. Although disappointing at Salisbury last time, Simon Dow's charge had run well earlier when second at Epsom, and on a track which suits front-runners, he gets the vote in the hope that he will be enterprisingly ridden by Paul Eddery. The dangers include the lightly-reaced Compton Drake, who drops back in trip here, and Beverley runner-up Other Routes. Hill Magic has obvious claims on his selling win at Chepstow last time, as this race doesn't look a great deal better. However, Social Contract is sure to be a fair price and a small wager is recommended each-way.
