Verdict

A CASUAL GLIMPSE at the stats book this year suggests that Richard Hannon's newcomer could be hard to beat; fellow newcomers Chilworth Lad and Milldown Magic may provide the stiffest opposition. The yard is currently operating (at the time of writing) at a 52% strike-rate with their juveniles and their record first time up is startling. This Compton Place colt is a half-brother to five winners and out of a dam who won as a two-year-old he looks like a precocious and entirely plausible winner. Mick Channon's youngsters have tended to need a run but Chilworth Lad is out of a mare who was prolific in her first season, whilst Remotelinx cost £28,000 and needs a market check on debut. With the yard in great form Milldown Magic makes slightly more appeal; although the majority of his relatives made up into better three-year-old's his sire won at two and he is not discounted. The form of the two runners to have raced looks poor and neither makes much appeal, so with Miss Maudie not the most appealing newcomer, the vote happily sits with Casual Glimpse.
