In depth

Verdict

Although Velveteen Rabbit will need to post an improved effort from her debut if she is to go on and fulfil her entry in the Lowther Stakes, she should appreciate this extra furlong and is given the benefit of the doubt here. Fantaisiste and French School are others that are obviously worth monitoring in the betting as they hail from in-form yards, so money for either can be considered significant. Not many of the rest with experience have really caught the eye as yet, with Hidden Chance possibly the best of the bunch at this stage. The daughter of Hernando missed the kick on her debut and basically ran out of time in trying to wear down the leaders thereafter. Like a number of the rest though, she should have learnt from the experience and she could at least make the frame in a race where the majority are likely to need further. This includes the selection, who being by Singspiel out of a Nashwan mare, should make up into a nice three-year-old. However, she had a number of excuses on her debut for her run and, considering that she was not beaten by far after a slow start, it may be prudent to dismiss it as a slight blot on her record. Therefore, in summary, Velveteen Rabbit is selected in the hope that the step up in trip and previous experience can bring about the desired improvement tonight.
