JON ESS, who has shown promise in three starts over timber, beat an in-form rival on the Flat at Cork a fortnight ago and looks on a fair mark so gets the nod in a very tricky opener. Another lightly-raced maiden over timber, Pairc Na Ngael, is one to keep an eye on in the market as is The Mouse Doctor, who was in very good form on the level last summer. This is a tough race for a four-year-old so the consistent pair Lever Du Soleil and stable companion Quantatmental are overlooked while Elm Grove's Limerick victory was gained on heavy ground. Licklighter has never won over hurdles but Free Ranger easily won a Punchestown handicap and has had excuses subsequently.
