John Gosden's Evolution Ex was good value for his win in a Windsor maiden last time but faces no easy task on his debut in a handicap and preference is for Subpoena, who gets the vote over Kerashan. The last mentioned is an improving colt, who made a winning return in a handicap at Kempton last month but a 9lb rise for that leaves him with more to do. Hallhoo showed his liking for the track when landing the Blue Riband Trial in April but has disappointed since and would probably prefer a softer surface so of more interest may be the John Hills-trained Wingman, who is fancied to reverse Goodwood form with Enforcer over today's longer trip. Takhmin looks to be the pick of Mark Johnston's two runners but preference is for Subpoena, who was with Michael Jarvis as a juvenile and made a promising debut for Godolphin on his return when looking as though the run would do him good at Newmarket. Fairly treated on that evidence, Subpoena is taken to open his account for the season today.
