In depth

Verdict

No hiding place for those lacking race fitness and we believe that the much improved Sun Hill can account for Phantom Stock and Bobsleigh. Sun Hill appears to have been one of the most progressive stayers on the flat during the winter months and could be a welcome early turf winner for the Blanshard team. While he is yet to stay this far in public, there is every chance that he will get the eighteen furlongs and connections have indicated that he should handle the surface. Bobsleigh is certainly quirky but the absence of the hurdles could reawaken his ideas about the game. Formerly a useful stayer over 1m6f, he does at least have race fitness on his side and this race is certainly there for the taking if he consents to get on with his jockey. Phantom Stock is another to have shown significant improvement on the all-weather. His backers will have to forgive a lamentable effort at Wolverhampton earlier this month and the ground is an obvious imponderable. Rahwaan put up a gutsy display to take his maiden hurdle at Catterick but with a welter-burden of 9st 12lb to carry, he is vulnerable to lesser exposed types. Riyadh looks to have lost his enthusiasm for the game and is best watched at present. Altitude Dancer is inspected in the market for any signs of confidence. Sun Hill is given the nod to land the stayers contest.
