In depth

Verdict

Another fiendishly difficult handicap, with many unexposed horses in the line up. That said, Clive Brittain's horses are in excellent form and Santando comes here on the back of a good win at Lingfield last time. However, the drop back in trip is not certain to suit, and he does not seem especially well treated, so as a likely favourite is probably worth opposing. we do so with Lynda Ramsden's Emerging Star. He spent most of last season getting handicapped by running over an inadequate trip, but was noted running on under a tender ride on his handicap debut over a mile at Ripon on his final start season. This extra two furlongs should be right up his street, and with Paul Hanagan in the plate is fancied to land the spoils here. Of the remainder, it seems significant that Pat Eddery rides Crathorne for James Bethell in preference to Brian Meehan's runner, Chinkara. The Ramsden stable landed a big gamble with Kristenson at this meeting last year, so Emerging Star gets the nap for us, and we advise you to take a price!
