Verdict

An open contest to kick things off on Town Moor and not too many can confidently be ruled out. However, Bannister, who has been running well of late, has dropped to a handy mark and may be worth chancing again today. Torrent, Columbine and Threat are others who should not be too far away if they run up to their best and are ones to watch in the betting. But the David Nicholls team are just starting to step up a gear again and Bannister looks the ideal sort to figure strongly in a race of this nature at likely odds. The five-year-old has more ability than his wins to runs ratio would suggest and he has to be considered a live danger to them all here off a mark of just 53 - especially as he has the best of the draw.
