Verdict

A competitive race for punters here and CARNIOLAN gets the nod ahead of Keep Discovering and The Jostler. Walter Swinburn's gelding is on the upgrade, having won decisively on good to soft at Ascot in July. He then followed up on faster ground from a 6lb higher mark a week later. The break since won't have done him any harm and with cut again in his favour here we'll take him to find the necessary to complete the hat-trick. Keep Discovering looks serious competition for the selection. He too has won on good to soft, when getting home on front at Sandown and he followed up recently at Chester. A further rise in the weights for that success means he has gone up 10lb for the two wins and has to give weight away all around today which won't be easy. The Jostler represents Barry Hills, and while he looks a decent sort, the ground appears to have gone against him this time. Harrison George will handle conditions which could help him produce a better effort than when he looked a bit out of his depth at this sort of level last time. There are going concerns over Royalist, who might nevertheless improve, while Dunn'o could get competitive on ground that suits. An intriguing contest then and one in which we'll side with Carniolan.
