In depth

Verdict

Red Ruffles looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to open his account over hurdles and gets the vote to do so at the main expense of Jack Martin and Bill's Echo. The last mentioned represents the in-form stable of Richard Guest and has shown signs of ability in four starts this term. Jack Martin has also progressed from bumpers and lost no caste in defeat behind Why The Long Face at Sedgefield and has to be respected but preference is for Red Ruffles. Noel Chance's gelding made a winning start to his career when landing a bumper at Newbury and ran his best race over hurdles at Chepstow last month when chasing home Bright Green. A reproduction of that effort may suffice here. Looksharp Lad has shown signs of ability and, with Mary Reveley's stable coming back into form, Weldman has to be respected but the vote goes to Red Ruffles.
