Verdict

ASATEER can take the nightcap with Harbinger and Devotion To Duty others to mention. The selection finished eighth in a valuable contest at Newmarket without necessarily looking completely at ease on the ground. The handicapper assesses him as being an 89 rated horse and if he has done his sums correctly, he will be tough to beat. Harbinger ran a race brim full of promise on debut in the Wood Ditton. The step up in trip is ideal, the draw is not. Devotion To Duty was well backed on seasonal reappearance at Newmarket and in fairness, he acquitted himself well. Calypso Bay finished ahead of him on that occasion but will do well to repeat it from a high draw. Changingoftheguard was notably weak on debut last season but did beat his better fancied stablemate on the day. Northern Acres was unlucky to come up against such a smart prospect last time out and this brother to Mot Juste may thrive once tried over longer trips. Beauchamp Xerxes was unfancied on debut though ran much better than the market suggested. Any money for the locally trained Una Pelota should not be ignored. Plenty of plausible winners and Asateer gets our vote.
