In depth

Verdict

Barton Beau stepped up on earlier form when making a winning start to his handicap career at Towcester last week and is taken to defy a 7lb penalty at the main expense of King's Travel and Phillipa Yates. The last mentioned is trained by Martin Pipe and, while disappointing of late, has slipped back to a fair mark. Given her connections, the six-year-old cannot be ruled out entirely in a poor contest. Colonial Sunset has been chasing but made an encouraging return to hurdling when third behind the selection at Towcester. He has to be respected but should not reverse the form even on the revised terms. Damien's Choice was also behind that day and is held on running then. Soleil d'Hiver should have no problems with the ground and can race off a nice lightweight. She is another to consider but the vote goes to Barton Beau, who may be open to more improvement and is taken to follow up.
