Golden Firebird unseated Robert Thornton at the first on her hurdling debut at Bangor in the race in which Queen Of Mantua eventually finished second. That contest was run in a very slow time, however, and the form may not amount to much. The nine-year-old Valmari sprang a surprise when making a winning start to her hurdles career at Wincanton last month but is liable to find life tougher under a penalty and may lack the scope of MISS TIQUE. It's taken a while for Venetia Williams' French import to acclimatise but she ran her best race so far in this country at Warwick last month and this stiffer test will be in her favour - she gets the nod.
