In depth

Verdict

Hallingdal lacks a run and experience but may still have enough ability to land this contest. Mark Johnston scored with a similar sort at Newmarket on Friday night which bodes well for the chances of this Halling filly. She ran out an impressive winner of a backend maiden despite looking in need of the experience although the handicapper hasn't taken too many chances with those behind looking modest. She's bred to be better than this though and has to be respected against some exposed rivals. Bold Cross has been in great form of late and may not be done with yet but the lightly raced Yathreb rates the one to beat following his win at Newmarket. The handicapper has handed him an 8lb rise for that but the second went on to fill the same position on his next outing to give the form a solid look and Yathreb's chance is there for all to see. Flying Applause is the most interesting of the remainder but a drop in trip didn't appear to be the most obvious course of action following a onepaced effort, admittedly off a slow pace, over ten furlongs last time. His trainer's track record merits respect but we'll be siding with Hallingdal.
