In depth

Verdict

An open contest and we will take a chance on Chauvinist to come good on only his second appearance of the season, with Xellance, Cool Roxy and Dangerously Good others to consider. Chauvinist would be a confident choice is this was on soft ground. The Roselier gelding simply keeps on galloping on that type of surface, and while he is effective on good, he is more vulnerable to something with a bit of toe. Nevertheless, he does see out a strongly run two miles well and the suggestion is that he will stay this extra five furlongs. He has been given a four month break and as he goes well fresh we will take a chance on him here. Xellance is proving difficult to win with judged on his three starts last autumn. However, he had thrived in the summer and will appreciate the sound surface. If anything he looks to be in the grip of the handicapper, but he has run well off this mark and can do so again. Cool Roxy stays well and comes here seeking a hat-trick after successive wins at Fakenham. Game and genuine, he will again run his race, though this looks a fair bit tougher. Of the others Dangerously Good makes appeal now back on a sound surface, but does not look well treated on his latest effort, while Holland Park has frame claims but looks exposed, and preference is for Chauvinist.
