Verdict

A tough race to call and Benrajah is a far from confident selection to breath a little life into the campaign of the Martin Todhunter team. The lightly raced Lord Of The Land is an obvious danger and, like the old-boy Weaver George and King's Bounty, has to be placed on the short list of alternatives. Trooper has the beating of Supreme Breeze on recent form and is another to consider for each way players as he is a dour stayer, who will at least keep going to the line. However, Benrajah is still unexposed after only a light hurdles career, in which showed that he handles some cut in the ground. The son of Lord Americo also hinted that there are races to be won with him in finishing second to Punchy when conceding 7lb to that rival at Uttoxeter on his recent chasing debut. And with that run under his belt he could be a different proposition in his first try over fences in a handicap. Benrajah has a wide, galloping stride, which may be suited to a more straightforward course in time. But he has the most scope for improvement out of this bunch and he can use this as a stepping-stone to better things.
