      Verdict

A very poor contest here and 85-rated Flat performer Pound Sign can make a winning hurdles debut, with Samizdat looking best of those with experience and Edas another newcomer who might go well. The selection has joined Evan Williams for whom he has had one outing on the level, after winning a maiden while with Michael Bell. The worry is that he did not take to soft ground last time at Warwick, though the trip may also have beaten him and this easier 2m 1f might be right up his street. His sire Singspiel handled cut, and if Pound Sign runs to anything like his ability then he should still win this. Edas is rated almost 20lb lower on the level and has been an unvconvincing performer in that sphere. Perhaps he needs to jump a hurdle, and this will be an interesting exercise today. Samizdat is trained on the doorstep by Jimmy Moffatt and Graham Lee is an encouraging booking. He handles cut but has been disappointing of late and would be a bit of surprise winner. Stablemate Roman Army looks best of the rest, but in a race that is not for dwelling on Pound Sign gets the nod.
