Verdict

The consistent Tonto may finally get his head in front here, with Lyrical Girl and Speed Racer seen as the main dangers. Tonto so nearly made a winning debut here in May when only denied half a length by Nights Cross, with subsequent winner Robocop back in third. Since then he has run well without gaining due reward, including in a better class nursery at Ascot last time. The slight worry is that Mick Channon, trainer of Nights Cross, is bang in form, and so Speed Racer, although disappointing at Folkestone, may improve a lot on that effort. A bigger danger though may be Lyrical Girl, who has run well twice here, with an outing in Newbury's Weatherbys Super Sprint sandwiched in between. Our Emmy Lou had a quiet introduction at Warwick but comes from a shrewd yard who may be keeping her for next year, so it is best to stick with Tonto to come good.
