In depth

Verdict

King's Fable is an interesting newcomer representing the yard of Mark Johnston but, being by Lear Fan, he is far from certain to appreciate the testing conditions and it may be that Bellsbank has been found a suitable opportunity so she gets the vote with Queen's Composer rated the best of the remainder. The selection has become expensive to follow but Alan Bailey's filly has run some decent races in defeat at this level, including when with cut in the ground, and will not have had an easier opportunity than this. Genau showed some ability on his Haydock debut and may do better on this slower surface although a bigger threat is likely to come from Bryan Smart's Queen's Composer, who found just Blue Mirage too good on a soft surface at Doncaster last week. The son of Mozart may have been flattered by that effort though as the far side on which he raced was favoured and the winner finished a long way clear so, in a poor contest, a safer option looks to be Bellsbank who is taken to gain an overdue first success.
