As with the earlier handicap hurdle race on the card this looks moderate but competitive and marginal preference is for the reappearing Polyphon, who gets the vote ahead of Nortonthorpe Lad and Reckless Venture. The last mentioned represents the yard of Lucinda Russell that is in pretty good form at present so has to be respected. My Portfolio looks the pick of Jim Lambe's two runners ahead of Compton Eclipse but, like most of the runners in this contest, neither make any great appeal. Mick Easterby's Nortonthorpe Lad has at least won a race, a bumper last season, and has shown some ability over hurdles. Preference though is for Polyphon, who has no fewer than four successes to his name and could prove to be different class to these but does have a long absence to overcome.
