In depth

Verdict

Solent gets the vote in a competitive handicap with Group Captain and Purple Moon put forward as the main dangers. The selection bounced back to form last time over this course and distance when beaten a head by Pevensey. The race has worked out well as a couple of those that finished down the field have since been out and won. This 5-year-old has a proven ability on the ground and he looks a solid bet. Group Captain is eased in grade after being beaten in a Listed race last time at Newmarket, but he is another that will go on the ground and he would have to enter calculations on his best form. Purple Moon wasn't beaten all that far by Championship Point in a better race than this last time and he should have no problems with this step-up in trip as he has run well over this course and distance in the past. His yard are in good form so he has to be respected. Masterofthecourt is a lightly-raced 4-year-old and he will strip fitter for his seasonal reappearance and his yard are firing so he could represent some good each-way value. However, Solent arrives here in good form and he can land the prize.
