Goodwood winner King's Caprice may find it more difficult to dominate this field as he did last time from his middle draw and a chance is taken with Vortex, who is preferred to top weight Mine. The last mentioned usually goes well in these big handicaps but the Bunbury Cup winner has been hit hard by the handicapper and he may struggle to give weight away all round. Polar Magic may prefer a softer surface, while Compton's Eleven has been knocking on the door and should be thereabouts again. Mick Channon's gelding is closely matched with Paper Talk on Newmarket running last month, while Prince of Thebes was doing all of his best work late on behind King's Caprice last time and should be thereabouts again. Minority Report is consistent and is another to consider along with Godolphin's Esquire but it is interesting that Frankie Dettori rides Vortex, who has slipped back to a fair mark and he is preferred.
