        Verdict

It's hard to oppose MONSIEUR CHEVALIER who has done nothing wrong so far; heading the list of dangers are Kingdom Of Light and Star Rover. This race was won 12 months ago by Howard Johnson's South Central so his representative this year, Kingdom Of Light, must be respected. His win came at Haydock in what didn't look too hot a race but his trainer is a wily old fox (also won it in 2005) and he should probably know roughly where he stands. However we prefer Monsieur Chevalier who is unbeaten in four starts, all for today¿s jockey Richard Hughes. He hasn't really shown any sign of weakness, and the only real question mark might be if a deluge of rain arrives. Star Rover was a well-held second behind him in the National Stakes at Sandown, and a place may be all he can hope for here racing off level weights. Diamond Johnny G shaped nicely on his Lingfield debut but this is obviously a big step up in class; don't rule him out however as his trainer has had huge priced horses win here before. Running Mate may improve for the fitting of a visor, however of more interest look to be US raider Yogaroo and Tawaabb. The latter routed a fair field last time at Leicester and warrants respect with Frankie up. Reignier's form looks solid, whilst Nosedive could be anything after one start and one win. Here Now And Why has trainer Kevin Ryan excited however he was supposed to have another run in-between Thirsk and here so he may not be spot on. A wonderfully tricky race as ever but it is Monsieur Chevalier who can stamp his authority.
