As the window closes, we look back at the biggest transfers from the past month.

Here’s how the transfer window unfolded…

Monday, January 5

Lukas Podolski – Arsenal to Inter Milan (Loan)

Hatem Ben Arfa Free agent to Nice

Frenchman Hatem Ben Arfa, who has frustrated supporters at St James’ Park and the KC Stadium in recent seasons with his inconsistent form, signed an 18-month deal with Nice – and then discovered he was ineligible to play for them until the summer, having already turned out for Newcastle’s development side and Hull this term.

Argentine striker Mauro Zarate scored twice in eight appearances for West Ham after arriving in the summer but was described as “not good enough” by Sam Allardyce after complaining about his lack of opportunities. A loan deal to Loftus Road gives him a chance to show what he can do.

Yaya Sanogo – Arsenal to Crystal Palace (Loan)

Alan Pardew made Yaya Sanogo his first signing at Selhurst Park and said the 21-year-old would add a ‘chaos factor’ to Crystal Palace’s attacking play. An impressive display in the 3-2 FA Cup win at Southampton showed promise.

The Africa Cup of Nations has delayed Wilfried Bony’s arrival at the Etihad, but the new Manchester City striker – who scored more goals in 2014 than any other Premier League player – will add extra firepower when he returns from Ivory Coast duty.

Matija Nastasic – Manchester City to Schalke (Loan)

The Serbian centre-back was a useful squad player for the Premier League champions last season but has found himself out of contention this term and a loan move to the Bundesliga could signal a permanent switch to Schalke this summer.

The 27-year-old winger was linked with a host of Premier League clubs as the transfer window neared its conclusion but it was Everton who won the battle for Aaron Lennon's services with a loan deal being agreed with Tottenham to take him to Goodison Park until the end of the season.
