The scout reports...

Mexican starlet Ulises Davila has already been plucked by one of Europe's elite, Chelsea, but how good is he? Guadalajara-born Davila was picked up by local side Chivas at an early age, and was soon progressing through their youth side. He in 2006 helped Chivas to their national youth championship, as he scored the winner against Pachua, and that same year they travelled to the Manchester United Premier Cup and again took the honours with victory over Arsenal. Davila in 2009 was handed his first-team debut for Chivas and within 18 months he was a key member of their side. But whilst he was progressing well with Chivas, he was really catching the eye of foreign clubs for his performances with Mexico's youth side. He featured at age-specific World Cups in 2009 and 2011, where he turned in some admirable displays and from this he was this summer even drafted into Mexico's Copa America squad. Most of Europe's elite were keen on Davila, who caught the eye with his runs from midfield, his graceful movement and almost lack of effort. He is hard to compare, but you could easily see him as a Robert Pires-type player. Davila also has an eye for goal, but one thing you notice is his immaculate finishing. He never lashes at the ball and always looks for placement above power. Chelsea had seen enough and sealed a deal for Davila earlier this summer, paying £2million and handing him a five-year deal.

The scout says...

Chelsea have already agreed to loan him to Vitesse Arnhem and spending a season or two in Holland will no doubt be a good grounding for him. Despite Chelsea's huge talent at youth level, Davila could in the coming years emerge as one of their top prospects.
