Cheltenham have appointed former Tranmere boss Rob Edwards as the club's new assistant manager.

The 41-year-old, sacked by Tranmere in October after five months in charge, will team back up with Robins' manager Paul Buckle after the pair spent a season together at Exeter in 2006/07. Edwards, a former defender with Bristol City, Preston, Blackpool and the Grecians, was in his first job as manager at Tranmere after a three-year spell as a coach and then assistant boss at St James Park. Buckle replaced the sacked Mark Yates at Whadden Road on a 12-month rolling contract at the end of last month.
